Chef Keizo Ishiba boasts training in both Japanese and French cuisine, as well as a stint as head sushi chef at Sushi Roku. He brings all that to bear in his eponymous—we appreciate the kindergarten-level phonetic translation—restaurant with an ambitious menu of high-quality sushi and small-plate fusion renditions. The unassuming space next to the Culver City Trader Joe's has attracted droves of yelpin', chow-crazed sushi lovers, who run up a steep tab from grazing through the irresistible selections. Call ahead for reservations, but be prepared to wait even still. And don't confuse this place with nearby Sushi Zo, although you wouldn't be the first to do so.
