Pink’s started in 1939 when Betty and Paul Pink borrowed $50 to buy a large-wheeled pushcart, which they plugged into a nearby hardware store with an extension cord. In 1946, the stand was replaced by the current building, which can rarely be seen due to the line snaking around it. The LA landmark serves 21 kinds of hotdogs, ranging from the classic chili dog to the “Patt Morrison Baja Veggie Dog.” Ellen DeGeneres said it best when she autographed a headshot to one of Pink’s current owners: “Hey Gloria – When I think of buns, I think of you.”
