Before the izakaya craze, there was Musha—way down in the South Bay amidst a thriving community of Japanese restaurants. Don't let the menu's kooky hieroglyphics intimidate you; the extensive selection of small dishes are meant for sampling broadly and sharing with the table. Fire and protein are the highlights: a marinated mackerel is torched tableside while the shichirin items produces a lovely mini ceramic grill, aglow with charcoal. And as it's a Japanese equivalent of a neighborhood pub, the night wouldn't be complete without a pitcher of Kirin off the tap.
