Feed the masses
September 27, 2008
The annual tribute to immoderation did not disappoint. The American Wine and Food Festival, now in its 26th year, once again filled the faux streets of the Universal Studios backlot with fine wines, potent potables and the hautest of cuisine. We heard something about fewer booths this year, but who the heck is counting? Chef-star power was hardly diminished as veterans like Nobu Matsuhisa and Valentino's Piero Selvaggio held court along with new-to-L.A. celebrity toques Michael Mina of the forthcoming XIV and José Andrés of the equally imminent Bazaar. Of course, it wouldn't be an AWFF without host Wolfgang Puck who happily made the rounds—and (hand to God) dove in, fingers first, to sample some of the evening's delectables. Hey, what's a party without finger foods?
