Warm olives, fried nuts, fried garbanzo beans
@ The York
The York has a special place in Metromix’s heart: We practically share the same July ’07 birthday. Despite its industrial-chic image, the trendy gastropub won over its Highland Park haters—er, neighbors—and we think the satisfying food had a lot to do with it. Our friends can duke it out over favorites—say, the supremacy of the Cuban versus the grilled cheese—but it’s the triptych appetizer of fried olives, garbanzo beans and nuts that embodies the welcoming spirit of the joint. Each component comes in its own separate dish, smartly separating the garlicky olives from the spicy, subcontintental kick of the garbanzos. Collectively, it’s a heap of food. Even if we order nothing else, we take it as an invitation to hang out for awhile.
