This is the cheese producer that started it all. Gioia Cheese Co. makes burrata, the creamier cousin of mozzarella that is enjoying a huge moment in the sun. It was invented in the Puglia region of Italy but never really caught on it that country. Gioia made LA the epicenter of burrata. The company started as a wholesaler to restaurants, but their burrata was just too fabulous and customers demanded it for themselves. Now people are in and out all day picking up small orders for home. And if burrata isn’t your style, there’s also regular mozzarella, ricotta, and a host of other cheeses.
