Trader Joe’s is the food-loving but bad cook’s best friend. Though this chain of small grocery stores does have produce, its strength lies in the frozen and prepared food sections. Defrostable desserts, microwavable Mexican favorites and some truly admirable pizzas (try the Parlanno) fill up the freezers, while salads, sushi, cut-up fruit and non-frozen but still microwavable Mexican favorites line the refrigerators. When they haven’t been demolished by the masses, that is. There are many marinated meats to choose from, as well as a semi-decent cheese selection. Cocktail party throwers and attenders alike stop here to pick up chips and dip (three-layer hummus? Pineapple guacamole?) or something from the inexpensive wine section. Of course, one must navigate the parking lot first—at most locations, that’s always a madhouse.
