Went to Hamasaku after reading all the reviews and having high expectations. I've been to some of the best sushi restuarants in LA and the reviews compared this place favorably.
Unfortunately, everything about this place was a let down. We ordered a wide variety of dishes- rolls, sushi, sashimi...none were particularly excellent. The fish was not fresh and most of the dishes were covered with sauce or fried toppings so as to mask the flavor of fish that couldn't stand on its own.
Nor was the service particularly good. The attention was spotty and to make the experience much more irritating, the valet outside tried to tell us we'd been there over 30 minutes more than we actually had. It wasn't until I finally asked him if there was a stamped time on the valet ticket that he said "Well, I guess its up to you to pay how long you've been here."
Having been to such amazing places such as Izayoi and Sushi Gen in Little Tokyo and Hidei on Sawtelle, I can now honestly say I have no idea how the reviews could state that this place is "among the best sushi restuarants in LA"
I wanted to like Hamasaku and gave it many tries (we ordered so many different things) but it was such a let down at the end of the day.

This place is delicious. Highly recommended. You will probably spend over $100 for two even with no alcohol. But i will tell you it is worth it! The sushi, sashimi, rolls, and sauces are to die for. Love, love, love this place! Very hard to get a seat so make a reservation and be prepared to wait. Also, the menu is very very overwhelming because it's sooo large and everything looks soo good.
