While looking for a decent place to eat that was walking distance from the Pantages, we stumbled upon La Velvet Margarita Cantina. Nestled on a dark strip of Cahuenga just south of Hollywood Blvd., we found a grand silver door lit by a neon sign along an otherwise non-descript brick wall. Inside that door was a velvet world unto itself. The place is complete with a cool decor of velvet celebrity paintings, purple neon lighitng, candles, and large Mariachi hats attached to the entire ceiling. One is greeted by a very cool soundtrack of mostly Spanish oldies, and Spanish versions of Drifters-era hits. I wanted to grab the disc for myself. The service was a little lacking at first, but great-tasting food and the low-lit, cozy atmosphere made up for it. You feel like you are in a Spanish version of Pulp Fiction where something odd but cool might happen at any moment. We were there on a Thursday night and the place was full but not overly crowded. Cool Latino Pulp!
