Situated right along Route 66 since the early 20th century, this bonafide soda fountain is the real retro deal with its refurbished counter, circular chrome bar stools, and brassy accents. The actual fountain area is tiny; the rest of the space is taken up by the kitschy knick-knacks of the pharmacy and gift shop. The ice-cream creations and strangely-named, old-fashioned drinks get rave reviews: rickeys, phosphates, and egg creams as well as towering sundaes and banana splits. Consensus warns us to stay away from the poorly-conceived lunch menu. That's all right. We're heading straight for the milkshake—we hear it's got a full pint of ice cream in there.
