Museum Mondays at Luna Park
Kiddies have all the fun at restaurants. Sometimes those miniaturized menus just look more appealing than the grown-up stuff—we can’t tell you how many times we've wanted to order the little corn dogs or chicken fingers. And while the crayons that come with the paper placemat may be the cheap, waxy kind, they’re probably still more amusing than our last dinner date.

Luna Park not only taps into your inner child, but also encourages that child to be artistic. To hail the debut of LACMA’s Broad Contemporary Art Museum (or BCAM, as the acronym-addicted free world calls it), the restaurant just down the way is hosting arts-and-craft-services for “Museum Mondays.” During both lunch and dinner services, willing patrons are provided with colored pencils, Crayola crayons (yep, the real brand-name ones) and paper to create and submit one-of-a-kind pieces for a monthly art contest. Winners will receive a one-year membership to LACMA at the “Active Member” level. (Those already blessed with a LACMA membership will instead receive a gift certificate to Luna Park of equivalent value, proving that a single meal in L.A. equals a year’s worth of cultural edification.)

While the restaurant won’t feed you mini wieners or PB&J, there's something even more brilliantly mini: a flight of three cocktail shots known as the Mini Bar. Otherwise, the comfort-driven menu has the stuff of Americana with a twist: spaghetti and meatballs, mac ’n’ cheese, s’mores, and deep-fried apple pie.

All submissions must be produced in-house—obviously to weed out cheaters with paint-by-numbers kits. Winning pieces will be selected by a choice committee of Luna Park’s staff, who may or may not be bribed with a good tip. One thing’s for sure: The Crayolas are not yours to take home. Sorry, kids.
