The Mermaid
This old-school relic has remained unchanged from the 1960s, from the local-heavy clientele right down to the no-frills pub-grub. Bar food includes burgers and
sandwiches. Attire includes flip-flops and worn-out surf tees. Clientele
includes locals, surfers and the occasional burly biker. A tabletop Ms.
PacMan lends a hipster touch without meaning to. Padded railings help
soften your fall, if you pass out from the bartender’s unbelievably
strong drinks. Eagle-eyed fans of The OC will recognize it from countless shots
on the show, appropriate given the barely legal/barely dressed tweens
that rule the pier scene.
