As the end-of-summer temperatures soar, you may be thinking about shearing some unwanted length from your heavy hair-do. We’re not suggesting you pull a Britney, but if you are getting some major trimmage (at least 10 inches), you should think about donating your unwanted ponytail to the Locks of Love Foundation, which relies on donations to create hairpieces for kids suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

I visited the very fab 1950's-inspired Ultra Lux salon in Redondo Beach to have my Rapunzel-like mane shorn. Despite some initial separation anxiety, I ended up losing nearly a foot of my hair, and gaining a hot new bob. I felt liberated, not to mention far less sweaty around the neck.

If you too are pondering the idea of going for a Victoria Beckham, don’t be selfish and consider Locks of Love—there’s no reason your cherished locks should end up swept up, if you have some to share.
