Lake, in the space formerly occupied by Patty Faye, offers a great selection of fashion-forward, hip designs. Owner Melissa Lovoy (wife of photographer Chris Fortuna) opened up shop on February 13 2007, and carries Mike Chris, James Perse, Phillip Lim, and Rachel Pally. Part boutique, part gallery, and part art-rental side business, Ghetto Gloss covers its bases in the art and retail realms, and provides the Glendale corridor in Silverlake with a neighborhood dose of cutting edge lowbrow.

Those who love hats made from unusual fabrics will find much to adore at Clover. Designer Drea Kadilak works from wool felt, cotton duck and the more common but under-appreciated, straw. Jury's out on whether she's actually made anything yet from clover - but we can dream...
Aptly named for a poem written by Jack Kerouac, Pull My Daisy carries everything a retro-chic, alterna-girly (and her dog) could possibly want, much of it by local independent designers. Owned by Sarah Dale DeAngelis, the space also houses Silverlake Shoes, which means Clark's and Camper for the boys, and Pink Studio and Nana for the girls.

It's not just a catchy name, they actually donate ten percent of all their sales to charity. They feature mostly aspiring young designers, items like kimono-esque boleros from Covet, hand-painted oxford shirts, and hand painted thermals from Dig Threads. Although situated in the artsy Silverlake neighborhood, the store does appeal to the Hollywood crowd as well: Britney Spears, Carmen Electra and the cast of "Sex and the City" have been spotted with bags from Lawson's Lottie Dottie line, a featured item here.
Fashion. Activism. At times they seem opposing, but not at Matrushka, where the slogan is "fashion for the people". Inspired by the utility of the Russian Constructivists, they create an interactive, hands-on environment for their functional fashions.
