Music Lover's Tour of L.A.
Whether you're just in town for the weekend or you're part of that rare breed known as "L.A. natives," these spots belong on any music lover's checklist.

1
Hollywood Bowl -
2301 North Highland Avenue - Hollywood (Hollywood)
Report this commentThe obvious choice and an important choice. Lots of history has been made at the Bowl - and plenty more is being made each season, with special concerts and one-off collaborations. You know your favorite cult band is no longer very cult when they show up at the Bowl backed by the LA Philharmonic. Great scenery... plus you can bring along a favorite bottle of wine.

Amoeba Records -
6400 W Sunset Blvd. - Los Angeles (Hollywood)
Report this commentYes, Virginia, there are still record stores. And this one is hard to beat... from the massive inventory to the A-list in-store performances.

3
The Echo -
1822 W. Sunset Blvd. - Los Angeles (Echo Park)
Report this commentCatch tomorrow's Vampire Weekend or TV on the Radio today.

4
Chateau Marmont Lounge -
8221 Sunset Blvd. - West Hollywood
Report this commentPlenty of entertainment history has been made in and around Chateau Marmont - some of it triumphant, some of it tragic, most of it decadent.

5
Silent Movie Theatre -
611 N. Fairfax Ave. - Los Angeles (Fairfax District)
Report this commentOccasionally moonlights as a music venue... with smart bookings that fit in with the rich atmosphere.

Largo at the Coronet -
366 N. La Cienega Blvd. - Los Angeles
Report this commentSinger-songwriter paradise... as well as a venue that reminded people it could be fun to combine comedy and music in the same evening. House rules: Turn off your cell phones and cut the chit-chat!

7
Troubadour -
9081 Santa Monica Blvd. - West Hollywood
Report this commentOh, if these walls could talk. From Dylan to GNR to Coldplay, it seems like just about everyone has played here (before AND after stardom). Tom Waits was discovered here. Lenny Bruce was arrested here. And it's still one of the most relevant spots in town.
