Best Albums of 2009 (so far)
I'll make this a running list... in no particular order.

P.O.S., 'Never Better'
By Matt Pais - February 2, 2009
Report this commentBored with hope and change? Minneapolis man with a plan P.O.S. has a punk past and isn't afraid to use it. Another feather in the cap of Midwestern hip-hop headquarters Rhymesayers, "Never Better" is versatile musically and on point lyrically.

Iran, 'Dissolver'
By Scott Thill - February 2, 2009
Report this commentThis looked like it was going to be overhyped for a few moments, then wound up kind of coming and going instead. Always interesting to hear what happens with Aaron Aites and Kyp Malone (of TV on the Radio) get together.

K'naan, 'Troubadour'
By Jeff Miller - February 23, 2009
Report this commentK'Naan is the right protagonist at the right time for hip-hop. He shows off his range as a storyteller and music-maker on "Trouabdour". Eye-opening AND body-moving. Just skip the track with the ever-terrible Adam Levine.

Animal Collective, 'Merriweather Post Pavilion'
By Jeff Miller - January 19, 2009
Report this commentNot a game-changer, not the best album of 2009... but very good.

Fever Ray, 'Fever Ray'
By Adam McKibbin - March 23, 2009
Report this commentI love it. I wrote the Metromix review that's linked here, so check that out for further information on 1) why I love it and 2) how much I love it.

Grizzly Bear, 'Veckatimest'
By Keith N. Dusenberry - May 25, 2009
Report this commentThe hype is pretty much getting it right this year: Grizzly Bear - like Animal Collective and Dirty Projectors - have really come into their own. There are a couple lulls in momentum on Veckatimest, but it's a lovely album... and the most universally accessible of 2009's Holy Trinity.

Florence and the Machine, 'Lungs'
By Adam McKibbin - October 19, 2009
Report this commentI reviewed this one, too, so my justification for this one is only a mere click away...

Future of the Left, 'Travels With Myself and Another' -
Report this commentFormer mcclusky frontman is in fine, aggressive form here... lots of memorable lyrics, shout-along choruses and some surprising melodic hooks.
