You’ve traveled far and wide. Along the way you’ve cut your hair slightly askew and taken those same scissors to your vintage threads. You’ve stopped at every rundown $5 dollar used-vinyl store and amassed a musical collection that ranges from the Rapture to the Stones. You’ve also collected concert T-shirts and colorful buttons, and you finally found that perfect pair of tight, ripped jeans.So now what? Look no further than Awesometown, the
Short Stop’s bash that takes place the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.
Set in a dark, divey interior, the bar gets packed with swillers of whiskey and Pabst Blue Ribbon, most of whom use those drinks as fuel to get their butts on the spacious dance floor. Presiding over the post-punk and dance-rock DJ sets are resident Anne Lee, of Princehouse Records and Blow Up LA, and frequent cohort Dirty Dave, best known as a general scenester-about-town. Lee and Dave are often joined on the decks by indie glitterati, like members of Junior Senior and the Rapture’s DJ Druzzi.
If your tired legs prohibit a little booty-shaking, fear not. The smoking patio, pool room and infamous photo booth provide the company of other hipper-than-thou wanderlusters, who are glad to reminisce about their rare 7-inch findings.
How does one find Awesometown? Follow your senses. The inimitable thump of the wood-panelled walls can be heard from down the road, where you’ll also catch a whiff of vintage perfume and leather wafting out of the bar.
