The Echo
1822 W. Sunset Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90026
213-413-8200
Sunset indie institution The Echo is headquarters of Eastside cool. It's not the prettiest place in town, with a nondescript exterior, vinyl booths and beer-soaked floors. But when it comes to seeing the hippest new bands you've lusted over on Pitchfork up close and personal, The Echo is where you want to be. Beck often shows up to play impromptu gigs, and bands like Deerhunter, TV on the Radio and Art Brut have all played memorable shows within The Echo's mirrored walls. You'll often run into clued-in celebs like Giovanni Ribisi and Busy Phillips amidst the crush of bed-headed hipsters and no-wave revivalists. There's a large back patio by the alley for enjoying smokey treats, complete with rickety picnic tables. Popular dance parties like Part-Time Punks (Sundays), Dub Club (Sundays) and Bootie LA (1st Saturdays) pack the dance floor with the same crowd.
