Don’t call
Vinyl Vixens a ladies night. There are no drink specials, two-for-one deals or cheesy guys in silk shirts prowling the dance floor here. Rather, this weekly party is all about its female DJ series, which has lured everyone from models, socialites and bona fide superstars to the decks at
Whiskey Blue. Would you expect anything else from owner Rande Gerber, the chiseled former model married to Cindy Crawford?
Hosted by Adam Franklin and Brett Gursky—an in-the-know Hollywood duo whom Gerber also hired to host
Wednesday nights at
Stone Rose Lounge—Thursdays are reserved for the trendsetting power players you love to see on blogs and gossip about during
happy hour.
It’s not just Franklin and Gursky’s expansive Rolodex that packs the club—it’s the DJs too. From Sophie Monk (the Australian pop singer best known in the states for having dated a Madden twin) to L.A. sensation
Caroline D’Amore to legendary hip-hop maven EQUE and the spectacular
Amanda Lepore, the decks on Thursdays are reserved for the girls. You may have noticed another pattern too: The ladies in the series thus far have all been models, actresses, singers and socialites who also happen to know their way around a turntable. How very…Gerber.
As Gursky puts it, "Rande wanted to throw an event that promoted something with substance. We started to focus on the female DJs popping up, and it eventually turned into a weekly night."
There’s an equal guy-to-girl ratio in the lounge, and plenty of room to network and mingle with the industry folk. Here you’ll see red-carpet regulars like Kathryn Heigl and
Lauren Conrad ordering bottle service and sipping Midnight Manhattans—a Whiskey Blue signature cocktail made with Woodford Reserve and Grand Marnier that’ll get you dancing in no time.
True, the crowd consists mostly of the promoters' friends—and their friends, and friends of friends—but the tight guest list assures none of those silk-shirt-wearing cheeseballs gets in to harass the ladies.
Save the date: Michelle Pesce will take over the decks on May 8. Not only is she hot, but she's also a
real DJ.
