45 years ago, a little venue in Pasadena opened their doors and thrust a retrospective exhibition of Marcel Duchamp into the faces of an unsuspecting Southern California audience. To mark that anniversary, the little venue, now called the Norton Simon Museum, is taking a look back at the iconic French artist who, like Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol and the countless other pop artists that followed him, made mountains from unexpected molehills. No one, for sure, could look at a public toilet in the same way again.
