Chances are you've already sampled the breads that made "artisanal" a legitimate food category. You know, that fancy baguette in a papery sleeve that you get to gussy up the Spaghetti-Os for your date. Yeah, that one. Before Nancy Silverton became a Mozza-tour-de-force, there was La Brea Bakery, the rustic (better) half to Campanile. The master may have gone on to craft pizza and mozzarella, but the quaint, corner storefront still offers crusty, airy, yeasty works of culinary art. The select café menu serves to highlight the carbo-lovely stars: Try the mozzarella (cold) or grilled cheese (hot). It's just a sampling of what you will find next door.
